Happy New Year

I had originally planned to post a column for today entitled "Justice done?" which is about an issue that I had been discussing with Mother Superior. That issue is the ultimate fate of Sadam Hussein. However, New Years eve is supposed to be a happy occasion so I will save it until tommorow. Until then, from all of us at The Sisters of Embracement, Happy New Year to you and your family.

A Platoon of Lesbians

A big salute of Rep. Gary Ackerman, of New York City suggested that the Bush administration may fear a platoon of lesbians more than terrorists. Allow me to quote from the Associated Press Article for you...

"WASHINGTON - a New York congressmean on Wednesday jokingly suggested the Bush adminstration may fear a "platoon of lesbians" more than terrorists in Baghdad, given the military's resistance to letting homosexuals openly serve.

Rep. Gary Ackerman's criticisim of Pentagon policy came as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice testified before the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Ackerman, a New York City Democrat, complained to Rice the military had fired Arabic and Farsi translators after learning the translators were homosexuals.

"For some reason, the military seems more afraid of gay people than they are against terrorists. They're very brave with the terrorists, and if the terrorists eer got ahold of this information, they get a platoon of lesbians to chase us out of Baghdad," said Ackerman prompting laughter."
